Sam, great additions. I love the idea that they are positioned directly against an 'other'. I also think you make a great point about the simplicity. Most often we think of value add as adding something, yet value can be added by taking away complexity. I live literally 'over' a Trader Joe's in oak Park, IL so it is our always on hand pantry. I love the handmade signs and local feeling. While each company is too big to call them 'anti-corporate', they have somehow managed to maintain a sense that they are still 'start-up's'.

Interesting analysis...Under Armour has used TV ads in the past, but perhaps that's not what catapulted it to Gen Y fame. I'd also add that each brand is the anti-something. The anti-Yahoo or Hotmail (Google/Gmail), the anti-Nike (UA), the anti-Wal-Mart/Kroger/Albertsons (TJ).

Also - each is simple and intuitive. UA has no flashy designs or logos on their clothing. Google.com is clean and easy. TJ only sells their own products and each store is relatively small for a grocery store. As a user/consumer, I appreciate that.
